Plagiarism Screening

Eduistiqomah in Economic (EIE) is committed to maintaining academic integrity and ensuring the originality of all manuscripts submitted for publication. All submitted manuscripts are subject to plagiarism and similarity screening before or during the peer-review process.

EIE uses plagiarism-detection or similarity-checking software to identify potential plagiarism, inappropriate text reuse, duplicate publication, and other forms of academic misconduct.

Similarity Threshold

The maximum acceptable overall similarity index for a submitted manuscript is 20%.

Manuscripts with a similarity score of:

  • 0–20% — May proceed to the editorial screening and peer-review process, subject to editorial assessment.
  • Above 20% — The manuscript may be returned to the author for revision and reduction of inappropriate similarity before proceeding to peer review.

The similarity percentage is not the sole basis for determining plagiarism. The editorial team evaluates the similarity report contextually and carefully examines the sources and sections contributing to the similarity score.

Authors' Responsibilities

Authors are responsible for ensuring that their manuscripts:

  • Are original and have not been previously published.
  • Properly acknowledge and cite all sources.
  • Use quotation marks and appropriate citations for directly quoted material.
  • Do not reproduce substantial portions of previously published work without appropriate attribution.
  • Do not engage in self-plagiarism or inappropriate text recycling.
  • Do not manipulate the manuscript to circumvent plagiarism-detection procedures.

Authors are encouraged to check their manuscripts for similarity before submission.

Editorial Assessment

The editorial team may exclude legitimate similarities where appropriate, such as:

  • References and bibliography.
  • Standard methodological terminology.
  • Common academic phrases.
  • Article titles.
  • Proper names and institutional names.
  • Legally or technically required terminology.
  • Properly cited quotations.

Therefore, a similarity score of 20% or below does not automatically guarantee acceptance, and a score above 20% does not automatically establish plagiarism.

Manuscripts with Excessive Similarity

If a manuscript exceeds the 20% similarity threshold, the editor may:

  1. Return the manuscript to the authors for revision.
  2. Request clarification regarding the identified similarities.
  3. Require appropriate citation or paraphrasing.
  4. Conduct an additional similarity check after revision.
  5. Reject the manuscript if substantial inappropriate similarity or plagiarism is identified.

Academic Misconduct

Manuscripts found to contain substantial plagiarism, duplicate publication, fabricated citations, inappropriate text reuse, or other forms of academic misconduct may be rejected regardless of the overall similarity percentage.

If plagiarism or other misconduct is identified after publication, EIE may take appropriate action, including publication of a correction, expression of concern, or retraction, depending on the seriousness of the case.
