Retraction and Correction
Sholihan: Journal of Islamic Religious Education (SJIRE) is committed to maintaining the accuracy, integrity, and reliability of the scholarly record. The journal recognizes that errors or ethical concerns may occasionally be identified after an article has been published. Appropriate corrections or retractions will therefore be issued when necessary.
1. Corrections
A correction may be published when an article contains an error that does not invalidate the main findings, conclusions, or scholarly contribution of the work.
Corrections may include, but are not limited to:
- Author name or affiliation errors.
- Minor errors in tables, figures, or data presentation.
- Typographical or formatting errors that affect understanding.
- Incorrect references or citations.
- Other substantive errors that can be corrected without invalidating the article's main conclusions.
When a correction is necessary, the journal will publish a correction notice and clearly link it to the original article. The original article will normally remain available so that the scholarly record remains transparent.
2. Retraction
A published article may be retracted when there is clear evidence that the article contains serious problems that undermine its validity, integrity, or ethical standing.
Reasons for retraction may include:
- Fabrication or falsification of research data.
- Serious plagiarism or extensive unattributed copying.
- Duplicate or redundant publication.
- Major errors that invalidate the research findings or conclusions.
- Serious violations of research ethics.
- Unauthorized use of data or materials.
- Manipulation of the peer-review or publication process.
- Unethical authorship or significant undisclosed conflicts of interest.
- Other forms of serious academic or publication misconduct.
A retraction does not automatically imply misconduct by the authors; the journal will assess each case carefully based on the available evidence.
3. Retraction Procedure
When a potential problem is identified, the editorial team will investigate the matter fairly and confidentially.
The journal may:
- Request an explanation or supporting evidence from the authors.
- Consult reviewers, editors, or relevant experts when necessary.
- Contact the authors' affiliated institution where appropriate.
- Review relevant research and publication records.
- Determine whether a correction, expression of concern, or retraction is appropriate.
The final decision will be made by the editorial team based on the evidence available and the seriousness of the issue.
4. Retraction Notice
When an article is retracted, the journal will publish a Retraction Notice that clearly identifies:
- The title of the retracted article.
- The authors.
- The original publication information.
- The reason for the retraction.
- The date of the retraction.
The retracted article will remain part of the scholarly record, but it will be clearly marked as RETRACTED. The article will not normally be removed from the journal's website because maintaining the publication record is important for transparency and scholarly integrity.
5. Corrections After Publication
Authors are encouraged to notify the editorial team as soon as they become aware of a significant error in their published article.
The editor will evaluate the reported error and determine whether a correction is necessary. Corrections will be handled transparently and linked to the original article.
6. Expression of Concern
In cases where serious concerns have been raised but the investigation has not yet reached a final conclusion, the journal may publish an Expression of Concern.
An Expression of Concern serves to alert readers to potentially significant issues while the matter is being investigated. It may subsequently be followed by a correction or retraction, depending on the outcome of the investigation.
7. Editorial Integrity
All correction and retraction decisions are made independently of commercial considerations. Sholihan: Journal of Islamic Religious Education (SJIRE) is committed to ensuring that corrections and retractions are handled transparently, fairly, and consistently to protect the integrity of the academic record.
