Peer Review Procces
Eduistiqomah in Law (EIL) applies a rigorous double-blind peer-review process to ensure the quality, originality, relevance, and academic integrity of all manuscripts published in the journal. In the double-blind review process, the identities of authors and reviewers are concealed from each other throughout the review and editorial process.
Initial Editorial Screening
All manuscripts submitted to EIL are first examined by the editorial team to determine whether they comply with the journal's focus and scope, author guidelines, manuscript structure, formatting requirements, and basic standards of academic quality.
At this stage, the editorial team may assess the originality, relevance, clarity of the research problem, methodological appropriateness, quality of references, and overall academic contribution of the manuscript. Manuscripts that are clearly outside the journal's scope, fail to meet essential submission requirements, contain serious methodological or academic problems, or show substantial textual similarity may be rejected without being sent for external peer review.
Manuscripts that pass the initial screening proceed to the peer-review stage.
Reviewer Selection
The editorial team appoints reviewers who have appropriate academic expertise and experience relevant to the subject matter of the submitted manuscript. Reviewers are selected based on their research expertise, scholarly publications, methodological competence, and familiarity with the relevant legal field.
The journal seeks to avoid conflicts of interest in reviewer selection. Reviewers should not be selected when they have personal, professional, institutional, financial, or other relationships with the authors that could compromise the impartiality of the review process.
Double-Blind Peer Review
EIL uses a double-blind peer-review system. The identity of the authors is not disclosed to the reviewers, and the identity of the reviewers is not disclosed to the authors.
Authors are therefore required to prepare manuscripts in a manner that does not unnecessarily reveal their identity within the main manuscript file. Reviewer comments and recommendations are communicated to authors through the journal's editorial system without revealing reviewer identities.
The journal normally seeks evaluation from at least two independent reviewers for each research manuscript. When necessary, the editor may appoint additional reviewers to obtain further expert assessment, particularly when reviewers provide substantially different recommendations or when the manuscript covers multiple areas of legal expertise.
Review Criteria
Reviewers are asked to evaluate manuscripts based on several academic and scholarly criteria, including:
- Relevance and Scope – The manuscript is relevant to the focus and scope of Eduistiqomah in Law.
- Originality – The manuscript presents original research, arguments, findings, or perspectives.
- Research Problem – The research problem, questions, or objectives are clearly formulated and academically significant.
- Literature and Theoretical Foundation – The manuscript demonstrates appropriate engagement with relevant and current scholarly literature and theoretical perspectives.
- Methodological Rigor – The research methodology is appropriate, clearly explained, and sufficiently rigorous.
- Legal Analysis – The manuscript demonstrates substantive, logical, and critical legal analysis supported by relevant legal materials or empirical evidence.
- Results and Discussion – The findings are clearly presented and critically discussed in relation to the research questions, theories, previous studies, and relevant legal contexts.
- Academic Contribution – The manuscript provides meaningful theoretical, methodological, empirical, or practical contributions to legal scholarship.
- Clarity and Organization – The manuscript is logically structured, clearly written, and professionally presented.
- References – The references are relevant, adequate, current, and appropriately cited.
- Ethical Compliance – The manuscript complies with applicable research and publication ethics.
Reviewer Recommendations
After evaluating the manuscript, reviewers provide comments and recommend one of the following editorial decisions:
- Accept Submission – The manuscript is suitable for publication without substantial revision.
- Minor Revisions – The manuscript is potentially publishable but requires limited revisions.
- Major Revisions – The manuscript requires substantial revision before a final publication decision can be made.
- Resubmit for Review – The manuscript requires significant revision and should undergo another round of peer review.
- Reject Submission – The manuscript does not meet the journal's academic, methodological, ethical, or scope requirements.
The reviewer's recommendation serves as an important consideration in the editorial decision, but the final decision remains the responsibility of the Editor-in-Chief or the authorized editorial team.
Revision Process
When revisions are requested, authors must carefully respond to the reviewers' comments and revise the manuscript accordingly. Authors may be required to provide a point-by-point response explaining how each reviewer comment has been addressed.
Revised manuscripts may be returned to the original reviewers for further evaluation. The number of revision rounds depends on the extent of the required revisions and the quality of the revised manuscript.
Authors should submit revised manuscripts within the period specified by the editorial office. Failure to submit revisions within the specified period may result in the manuscript being considered withdrawn.
Editorial Decision
The final editorial decision is made after considering the reviewers' evaluations, the quality of the manuscript, the authors' revisions, and the overall standards of the journal.
Possible final decisions include acceptance, acceptance subject to minor revisions, further revision and review, or rejection.
The editorial team reserves the right to reject a manuscript even when reviewer recommendations are favorable if significant concerns regarding originality, methodology, ethics, legal analysis, or publication standards are identified during the editorial process.
Confidentiality
All manuscripts submitted to EIL are treated as confidential documents. Editors and reviewers must not disclose, reproduce, distribute, or use unpublished information contained in submitted manuscripts for personal or professional purposes.
Reviewers must maintain the confidentiality of the review process and must not share manuscripts or reviewer reports with third parties without authorization from the editorial team.
Reviewer Conduct and Conflict of Interest
Reviewers are expected to provide objective, constructive, and academically appropriate evaluations. Reviews should focus on the quality and substance of the manuscript rather than the personal characteristics, institutional affiliation, nationality, gender, religion, or other personal attributes of the authors.
Reviewers must disclose any potential conflict of interest before accepting an assignment. If a conflict of interest exists that could affect the objectivity of the review, the reviewer should decline the assignment.
Editorial Independence
The editorial decisions of EIL are based on academic quality, originality, relevance, methodological rigor, and scholarly contribution. Editorial decisions should not be influenced by the author's institutional affiliation, academic position, nationality, personal characteristics, political views, or other non-academic considerations.
The journal is committed to maintaining an objective, transparent, fair, and academically rigorous peer-review process.
Review Timeline
EIL strives to process manuscripts efficiently while maintaining rigorous academic standards. The duration of the review process may vary depending on reviewer availability, manuscript complexity, revision requirements, and the number of review rounds required.
Authors can monitor the status of their submissions through the journal's Open Journal System (OJS).
Publication Decision
A manuscript will only be accepted for publication when the editorial team determines that it has satisfied the journal's academic and editorial requirements and has successfully completed the required review and revision process.
Acceptance of a manuscript does not guarantee immediate publication in a particular issue. Accepted manuscripts are scheduled for publication according to the journal's editorial production process and publication schedule.
Through this peer-review system, Eduistiqomah in Law (EIL) seeks to ensure that every published article meets high standards of originality, scholarly rigor, legal analysis, ethical integrity, and academic contribution.
