Abstract

The rapid development of digital technologies has transformed educational management by reshaping administrative processes, communication systems, decision-making practices, information management, and institutional approaches to organizational change. Islamic educational institutions face distinctive challenges in responding to digital transformation because technological modernization must remain aligned with institutional missions, Islamic values, organizational culture, and existing governance structures. This study aims to examine how Islamic educational institutions implement digital transformation, how digital leadership facilitates institutional change, and how organizational readiness and institutional culture influence the sustainability of digital transformation. A qualitative multiple-case study approach was employed involving Islamic educational institutions, with data obtained through semi-structured interviews, non-participant observations, and analysis of institutional documents concerning digital policies and management practices. Data were examined through thematic analysis and cross-case comparison, supported by source triangulation and member checking to strengthen the trustworthiness of the findings. The analysis indicates that digital transformation develops through the interaction of technological implementation, digital leadership, organizational readiness, and cultural adaptation rather than through technology adoption alone. Digital leadership provides strategic direction, coordinates organizational resources, develops digital competencies, and facilitates institutional adaptation, while organizational readiness determines the capacity of institutional members to adopt and sustain new digital practices. The study proposes an integrated model connecting institutional context, digital leadership, organizational readiness, digital transformation, cultural adaptation, and institutional change. The model contributes to Islamic education management by emphasizing technology governance, human capability, organizational culture, ethical considerations, and institutional values as interconnected dimensions of sustainable digital transformation.
